FITTING THOUGHT 1 Technology is keeping us busy It’s somewhat apocryphal around here, but apparently when Plumbing Africa was launched 24 years ago, many people would voice out loud whether there was enough to write about in the plumbing industry to sustain the magazine. Almost two and a half decades later, history has proven that there is enough, and in this issue, we delve into just why: technology. Apart from being a multifaceted community with as many stories as members, leads for a magazine like ours are easily come by due to the rapid pace of change in modern plumbing. Things are always changing, advancing, and improving, and in the past 10 years, the plumbing industry has probably seen as much change as it did in the 100 years before that. Technology is constantly moving on to the next big thing and in our technology feature, we take a look at just what’s on the www.plumbingafrica.co.za horizon in terms of plumbing systems and fittings over the next few years. From bots that map entire plumbing systems and toilets that can change the ambience in a room depending on who is using it, to showers that recycle their own water, there is enough creativity in the plumbing industry to fuel a dozen magazines — but it’s a good thing there is only one. Aptly, this is backed by an article on the Geberit Supertube system, which is likely to revolutionise the way drainage is installed in high-rise buildings.
