SOTT National games
Special Olympics Trinidad and Tobago (SOTT) recently staged its 34th
National Games for persons with intellectual disabilities on Saturday 12th
March, 2016. Competition occurred in the sporting disciplines of Aquatics, Basketball, Bocce, Equestrian, Football, Powerlifting, Athletics and
Volleyball. With the assistance of approximately 250 volunteers, 679 athletes were able to participate. The games were staged at various venues
such as the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Jean Pierre Complex, Long Circular
Health & Wellness Club, Police Training Academy, Police Mounted
Branch and the Diego Martin Swimming Pool.
SOTT is the local programme of Special Olympics International (SOI), a
non-profit organisation dedicated to the positive development of persons
with intellectual disabilities through sport. SOTT was also extremely grateful for the support from the entertainers who participated in the celebration
at the end. Continued contributions to SOTT are always
greatly appreciated and is
used to provide the continuous support and tools needed
to train and inspire their athletes who participate with
great courage and joy.
