Playtimes HK Magazine June 2017 Issue | Page 8

welcome I hope all you wonderful mums enjoyed Mother’s Day last month. I was lucky enough to spend the day on a rather fabulous boat celebrating a friend’s 40th birthday. I’m not sure I can beat that when it comes to celebrating feeling inspired by some of the items on our Daddy Cool shopping page (p30). Father’s Day, but I’m In honour of Father’s Day we also spoke with a number of dads (pxx) - including founder of ‘Dads in Hong Kong’ Facebook group Damien Rhodes - to learn how they carve time away from their busy careers to spend with their family. Some of the tips (such as ‘if you’re at work, be at work. If you’re at home, be at home’) work for both working mothers and fathers. In addition to celebrating Mother’s Day and Father’s Day it’s been incredibly rewarding participating in Helper Appreciation Month during May. The response to our helper appreciation competition was inspiring and we can’t wait to announce the three winners on the 9 June. Personally, I don’t know how I would manage in Hong Kong without our helper, Amie, who has been with our family for around 10 years. In this issue we also explore safety in the home , with tips on reducing the risk of accidents at home. Karen Sherwood shares her experience of moxibustion and acupuncture while pregnant and Vanessa Thai talks about the symptoms of myopia, or near-sightedness. If, like me, you enjoy some clothes shopping during your summer travels, don’t miss Summer Shopping (p52). Wardrobe consultant Sheryl Bolden offers tips on making the most of your shopping time, including how to avoid rash purchases that never see the light of day once they are hanging in your wardrobe (I confess to having a few of those). Sheryl also talks us through a wardrobe edit she did for one Playtimes reader, which certainly inspired me to root through my cupboards this weekend. Check out our new list of summer camps, with some overseas Mandarin immersion camps, too, to help you prepare for summer. Speaking of summer, our summer issue combines July and August and will be out at the end of June. Until next month, 6 www.playtimes.com.hk
