folks at the Visitor Center will provide you
with a map and you can start exploring.
Discover the rare beauty and abundant
nature which co-exist along the Colorado
River and there’s even a spot for launching
your kayak. Enjoy the park and grab a golf
cart for a $5.00 fee. Take a picnic and make
a day of it.
Another fun thing to do is a trip to
the Matagorda County Historical and
Children's Museum. This great museum
offers up interesting artifacts for all ages.
The most significant archeological find of
the century makes up part of the museum’s
exhibits! The extraordinary excavation that
uncovered the Belle shipwreck in 1995
from its’ watery grave in Matagorda Bay, is
on display in a diorama, as well as artifacts
from the ship, including a bronze cannon
and navigational instruments.
Discover the mystery and art of LaSalle at
the Matagorda County Historical Museum
and be sure and bring the kids because
the museum has an interactive Children’s
Museum created just for them!
Downstairs is an elaborate children's
museum set up like an old-time village,
complete with a country school, barbershop
and an old mercantile store. Children can
take a Walking Tour of "Our Town" and
pretend they are in yesteryear. Finally a
museum where kids are encouraged to
touch everything! This children's museum
has something for every child's imagination;
pioneer clothes to play dress up, pioneer
house, shop at the general store with a real
old fashioned squeaky wood floor, pretend
they’re cops and robbers with their own
bank, stagecoach and jail, even a classroom
and old barbershop! Each replica is made
for a child's size and depicts a historic piece
of Bay City, so your kids can learn without
them knowing they are being taught!
Children will have a blast!
archeologists would sift through and
catalog artifacts brought up directly from
the ship. Palacios is a great place to visit
and it offers a pristine beach on Matagorda
Bay. If you’re headed to the Gulf of Mexico
the Town of Matagorda is the place to be.
Where the Colorado River flows into the
gulf a beautiful unspoiled beach awaits
you, and if you’re there to try your hand
at offshore fishing, you’ll be out the blue
water in no time. It really doesn’t get any
better than that.''
If you’re headed to the beach it’s only a 20
minute drive away! In fact there are several
beaches located a short distance from Bay
City. If you want to continue exploring
the history and mystery of LaSalle, take a
drive over to Palacios and drop in on the
City by the Sea Museum. This is where
