F
riday 9 June 2017 saw Wirtgen South
Africa, local subsidiary of the Wirtgen
Group, launching the much-anticipated
track-mounted Kleemann Mobiscreen
MS 703 EVO classifying screen to the South
African market. This launch event, which took
place at Raumix Willows Quarry in Pretoria,
was the first in a planned series of roadshows,
demonstrations, and site visits coordinated by
Wirtgen SA to introduce the dynamic screening
plant to the local market.
Wirtgen SA managing director Heinrich
Schulenburg started the proceedings with
an overview of the Wirtgen Group and its
international operations. Schulenburg also gave
some insight into the recent announcement
regarding the W irtgen Group’s acquisition by
US-based manufacturer Deere & Co., best
known across the globe for its agricultural
equipment. “There are five main brands
produced in state-of-the-art factories in
Germany, with Kleemann being the brand
responsible for the Group’s mobile and static
crushing and screening equipment, and the
reason we are all here today. I would like to
thank you all for joining us here for the launch
of the latest Kleemann offering: the Mobiscreen
MS 703 EVO.”
Also present from Wirtgen SA were Mike
Newby, sales consultant: Mineral Technology;
Waylon Kukard, sales manager; and Lantie van der
Merwe, sales consultant: Kleemann, who were on
hand to introduce the new machine and answer
questions about its specifications and capabilities.
Rich history
Newby gave an overview of Kleemann’s
history and operations, highlighting the
company’s contributions to the crushing and
screening industry over the past 160 years.
“In 1950, Kleemann was one of the first
companies to offer a wheel-mounted crushing
screening plant, which was hand fed,” he
said. “In 1984, the company launched its first
wheel-mounted mobile crushing plant. Three
years later, Kleemann introduced its fully
mobile track-mounted crushers, and in 1992,
it started focusing on multi-stage, interlinked
systems. In 2006, Kleemann joined the
Wirtgen Group, enabling it to offer its product
range to the global market. Four years later,
in 2010, the company started manufacturing
its new EVO range of mobile crushers
and screens, and in 2013, it turned its focus
completely to mobile equipment.”
According to Newby, the Wirtgen Group is
one of the largest providers of mobile crushing
and screening equipment in the world, with
a total market share of 9.8% in 2016, behind
only Terex (including Finlay and Powerscreen),
Sandvik, and McClosky, and ahead of Metso.
Of the 5 700 mobile crushers sold in 2016,
1 800 units were sold in Europe, where Wirtgen
has 15% of the total market share, and 1 400
units were sold in North America, where the
Group has 5% of the total market share. The
Group also has 8% of the market share in
South America, 6% in Australia (where its
crushers are used in iron ore applications,
among others), and 4% in Africa. In South
Africa, Kleemann crushers and screens are
used in several different applications, including
quarry rock in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng,
coal in Mpumalanga, and manganese in the
Northern Cape.
“Kleemann crushers offer unmatched fuel
efficiency,” Newby added. “To give you an
idea, our MC110R EVO jaw crusher (jaw size:
1 100mm × 700mm) uses about 18 litres of
fuel an hour, and our MCO 9 S EVO cone
Of the 5 700 mobile crushers sold in 2016, 1 800 units were sold in Europe, where
Wirtgen has 15% of the total market share, and 1 400 units were sold in North
America, where the Group has 5% of the total market share.”
