When I felt important, I acted important, and it was
always to the benefit of my leaders.
PMR: You speak to a variety of Companies on
Leadership, Sales, Company Culture, etc. What is
a common theme you see happening in most
companies today that needs to be fixed?
JS: I see that we are very sluggish about adapting to
a “people first” mentality. But there seem to be a lot
of competing interests. Connection has become the
new currency. People are looking to be a part of
something that matters to them. The organizations that
haven't caught up with this are beginning to fall by
the wayside—you can see it as it’s unfolding! People
are choosing to work for companies and
organizations that mean something to them. Leaders
who have not caught that message yet are trying to
lead using old tactics and they are failing as a result.
They are losing precious human capital to the
organizations that have understood that people must
matter within the organization. Studies show that up to 80% the workforce is
disengaged and unfortunately, it's our fault. We can
do something about it by simply connecting with
people and by saying thank you and implementing
the elements of the connectology, we can change that.
It's about putting people in a position to let them
know that they are important. When people feel
important it shows up in the bottom line.
PMR: What is “The Big Disconnect” and why is it
important for Companies to address it? JS: The Connection Quadrants assessment has
helped so many people regain their focus. I am so
proud of the impact it has had. It allows leaders to
know the truth about what’s going on beneath the
surface within their organizations. The Quadrants
venture into what really makes a difference in how
your people are showing up—1. Their connection to
the mission, 2. Their connection to the process, 3.
Their connection to their team, and 4. How their work
creates meaningful connection to outcomes that
matter.
JS: The Big Disconnect is who we say we are versus
who we really are. We see it everywhere. The desired
outcome and stated values doesn't live up to what’s
actually happening. This is the source of 90% of the
issues within organizations.
Because of The Big Disconnect, discretionary effort
becomes an issue. People do just enough to maintain
the status quo, but rarely more than that because of
the inconsistencies around them. It’s hard to fully
commit to something you don’t fully believe in. I
call this PPMA— “physically present mentally
absent.”
The Big Disconnect is causing our nation to really
suffer in a lot of ways that people aren't aware of.

Plan Meet Repeat Magazine March/April 2019
PMR: The Connection Quadrants was created to
answer a simple question: What is lighting your
fire, and what is burning you out? Why do
individuals have difficulty identifying this and
correcting it?
You wouldn’t imagine the kind of breakthrough
conversations I’ve facilitated as a result of this
assessment. It gives people an opportunity to
elaborate freely on things that have been holding
them back; sometimes things they didn’t even realize.
After even the first session, you can see the fire
rekindling in people’s eyes. The right conversation
can completely change an organization.
