sweating blood. This is actually possible! The scientific name for this is hematohidrosis. To this day, scientists do not know why or how this is possible, but they think that it might have something to do with extreme stress. The reason for this thinking was the fact that people awaiting execution sweat blood, probably because of their extreme stress.

Jesus got up from praying about three times to wake His disciples. They had fallen asleep during His prayers. Each time Jesus woke the disciples, they fell back asleep. When the Roman guards came to get Jesus, the disciples were jolted awake. The soldiers were coming to take Jesus.

Peter, being the brash disciple, drew his sword and sliced off one of the Roman’s ears. It fell to the ground, but Jesus picked it up and put it back on the guard healing him. The guards then took Jesus away so that He could appear before the Caesar and have His fate decided.

When Jesus was brought to the people, the Caesar gave them a choice: release Jesus or release Barabbas (a real crook). The people yelled and cheered for Barabbas to be released and Jesus hung on the cross. The people had their way and Jesus was hung on a cross.

Now, a cross was and still is the single most gruesome way to die. Sure there are other cruel ways to die, but there’s many different aspects in each gruesome area. The cross is a shape many people know and some people wear on necklaces: a short beam of wood perpendicular to a longer piece of wood. Most of the time the wood was just gnarly wood that didn’t look pretty. The person that was to endure this punishment was nailed to the cross. One large nail in each wrist and in the feet. Once the person was finished being nailed to the cross, they were lifted up above the people.

The design of the cross was to make the person bleed out or suffocate. Below the feet of the person was a board in which they could push up to breathe. It was painfully, but at least they could breathe. If the person wasn’t dying fast enough, the guards would break the person’s legs so that they wouldn’t be able to push up and breathe.

When the guards came to Jesus to see if He was dead, they found that He already was - or at least appeared to be. The guards speared Jesus’ side just in case. It was true: Jesus really was dead. They took Jesus down and took Him from the cross.

Jesus was then put in a grave (Good Friday) and then three days later, He rose again. This is what Easter is and how it came to be.
