each table had a photograph of us in the corresponding
place, and the place cards were written on luggage labels.
To give the room some drama we had six large
candelabras with flower arrangements on top and five
table-top arrange ments, together with jars of sweets and a
scattering of table jewels. Green ran through everything,
right down to our cake.
I got ready at the venue, while Jon got ready at home
with his brother. at arley Hall there is a beautiful staircase
that leads to the room where we were getting married. We
decided we would meet each other there, then walk in
together after the wedding party. We walked in to The
Beatles’ In my life and left to At last by etta James. We had
a reading from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by our friend
ayesha, and during the speeches our seven-year-old niece
Gabby read a poem she’d written about her uncles.
at 7pm we headed to the olympia Barn for the
reception, where we had a full bar, DJ and the amazing
Toni James Band, who did two sets and got everyone in the
party mood with their floor-filling repertoire. We cut the
cake at the beginning of the reception, then had a first
dance to Sarah McLachlan singing The Rainbow
Connection. Then there was a mother and son dance
before the band got started.
