Spring SUMMEr FaShion BOLD and beautiful Ruffles. Bold colours. Wavy hemlines. Embellishments. Florals. In-your-face prints. Sheer dresses. Big sleeves. PWM gives you the season’s new trends… At a glance, the trends of spring and summer ’16 seem dauntingly daring and contradictory. But underneath the extravagant lingo, the fabrics and styles are interwoven beautifully. VIVA LA FIESTA Salsa your way into spring/summer 16 with bold reds, orange hues and flamenco-esque ruffles. Lettuce hems are de rigueur, used in Alberta Ferretti’s SS14 collection to add feminine flare to her flamenco-inspired range. A versatile look, it allows the wearer to switch from subtle to sassy with the right accessories. For a gentler approach, pair with black lace accessories. For make-up, go with a vibrant red lippy, subtle eye make up, and add a little summer glow by applying some coconut oil over your cheekbones. Keep your hair down and go for wild, tousled styles. Alternatively, be bold and eye-catching with black leather accessories, slicked hair and statement eyes and brows. Ruffles are the key detail trend of the season. If you’re not ready for ruffling, opt for a simple white shirt but look out for one with slightly more emphasis on the sleeves or collar – subtle and stylish. Men, go for pale floral shirts, or shirts with stiff or mandarin collars for an old- fashioned vibe. If you’re a waistcoat lover, go for greys, floral and tweed patterns to play to gentle, old-English style. If you’re feeling a little brave, have a go at matching the ruffles and ‘gothic’ style of the Victorian era with the vibrant and fiery red pallets often seen in traditional Spanish attire. ‘I say! Olé!’ This style makes for fabulous summer office attire. For the nine to five routine, match a silk shirt with puffy bishop or bell sleeves and a mandarin collar for an understated but formal look. But we say forget the subtlety and go all out! Loose-fitting and overly extravagant shirts? Yes please! LACE, LACE, BABY This is the season for some in-your- face lace – a SS16 favourite of Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton, who are all filling the spring and summer runway with flashes of lace.
