Promotional Feature Cider in the city Award winning Brighton-based cider makers SeaCider talk about the importance of supporting the local community, and why they jumped at the chance to be part of the Brighton Gay Wedding Show. ‘I am a cider drinker, I drinks it all of the day, ooh arrh ooh arrh ay,’ sang the Wurzels, and while the SeaCider team would agree that a few pints of the delicious apple based beverage might ‘soothe your troubles away’ there is nothing country bumpkin about Brightonbased brewing pair Mark and Matt. After a meeting in a pub, the two brewers and cider lovers concocted a plan to create a distinctive south east cider, which used local produce and was far removed from some of the mass produced ciders on the market. While natural ingredients and traditional methods are essential parts of the process, these Brighton boys wanted to create a drink that was equally at home being drunk in bars and clubs as it was being supped on a bale of straw. The SeaCider branding has a distinctly urban edge, and from day one it has been popular in venues around Brighton. The take-up has exceeded all possible expectations and has led to the duo doubling their output, while adding blackberry and strawberry ciders to their range. Since being rated the top cider at the Lewes beer and cider festival, the company has ambitious plans for the coming year. ‘The LGBTQ community is a big part of what makes Brighton such a vibrant city to live and work in’ says Mark from SeaCider. This was why, when they were asked to support the Brighton Gay Wedding Show, they leaped at the chance. From the outset SeaCider has supported gay issues, making a donation from their pub sales to the Terrence Higgins Trust. The boys hope you will come down to The Grand on 16 October to share a couple of glasses with them! Find out more about SeaCider and how to order it at: www.seacider.co.uk pink weddings magazine » 7
