The summer sales are a distant memory, and autumnal shades are flooding the shop windows – rich, earthy hues draping from mannequins and deep, plum coloured accessories decking the displays. But the question is, which trends are worth investing in for Autumn/Winter ’16? METALLIC (AWE) Metal detail and shiny material, including sequins, will be a key element of the AW16 wardrobe. If sequins aren’t your thing, go for wet-look leggings, a shiny puffer jacket or a sleek mac overcoat. Could be your purse, could be your shoes, could be your outfit from top to bottom, but as long as you’re shining, you’re doing something right. VELVET In summer we revisited the ’70s with tan and tassels galore. Now we’re fast-forwarding a decade and focusing on the ’80s – velvet is the fabric of the season. A great winter comfort, pair with bold floral prints or inky dark accessories and you can’t go wrong. Velvet on the runway came in bohemian hues and with inky black, floor-length sophistication. NECK COVERAGE Nineties era chokers have been in vogue all summer long, thanks to festivals such as Coachella. Unfortunately though, these lame excuses for chokers just won’t cut it for AW16. Covering your neck is a key style feature – whether you choose scarves, turtlenecks, or a chunky choker, make sure you have something stylish around your neck 16 » pink weddings magazine to add a little ‘oomph’ to your outfit this winter. The men of the runways also sported full neck coverage, styled with neckerchiefs and funnel neck clothing. OVERSIZED COATS And when we say oversized, we mean the bigger the better. Loud bomber jackets and puffer coats will be this season’s must-haves. Yes, you read that right – puffer coats. Statement furs (always faux fur for us) were also prominent, as both ground-trailing outerwear or trims to accessories. The men’s runway featured big and beautiful outerwear, with a focus on duffle coats and hoodies.
