What will the Pinal County JLUS provide ?
The Pinal County JLUS will provide stakeholders with :
• An assessment of existing land uses and potential growth around the AZNG sites ,
• A body of information to assist surrounding communities to make informed decisions regarding compatibility , and
• Recommended strategies to promote compatible land use planning around AZNG installations and operational areas .
Who will guide the JLUS development ?
Two committees , comprising county ; city / town ; AZNG ; and other local , state , and federal stakeholders , will guide the development of the JLUS . The public also plays a key role in the development of the JLUS .
POLICY COMMITTEE ( PC ) The PC is a critical partner for the success of the JLUS , providing key insights into local and regional issues and assisting with refinement of all recommendations to fit local needs and capabilities . The PC is responsible for providing guidance on the overall direction of the JLUS project , offering and reviewing policy recommendations , reviewing and approving draft and final documents , and assisting with the establishment of a process to monitor implementation of the identified recommendations .
TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP ( TWG ) The TWG is responsible for identifying and studying technical issues . Membership includes representatives from local jurisdictions , agencies , and AZNG with technical expertise in one or more of the compatibility factors . The TWG identifies and addresses technical issues , provides feedback on report development , and assists in the development and evaluation of implementation strategies and tools .
PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT The public plays a key role throughout the JLUS process . Their input is received through the project website and multiple public workshops held at key milestones of the project , including providing information on compatibility issues and their importance , and providing review and comments of the draft documents during the Public Draft review and comment period .
Why is it important to partner with the Arizona National Guard ?
The Arizona Army National Guard and Silverbell Army Heliport account for over 3,350 direct , indirect , and induced jobs , and generate over $ 865 million in economic impact . The AZNG trains over 5,000 Soldiers to prepare for deployment and respond to state emergencies . It is not only important to support and protect AZNG sites and training capabilities because of the economic benefit they provide , but also to preserve their capabilities to support local and regional communities during times of domestic emergency , and support the United States during national emergencies , wartime deployments , humanitarian efforts , and other needs .
