I
got hooked on pickleball a few years ago and, as a certified
tennis teaching professional, have always included some time
at the end of my tennis lessons to give a quick introduction to
pickleball. The kids in the 10 and under classes really enjoy
the overview and are excited about this game and the dog
named Pickles. The kids’ parents usually watch the lessons and
sometimes come out on the courts and hit a few pickleballs with the
kids. The parents become interested in the game and want to take
lessons to learn more.
One of the reasons I wanted to become a USAPA ambassador was
to help tennis players learn the game of pickleball and for pickleball
and tennis to live in harmony. Currently, we have pickleball
programs at some area facilities. Our tennis academy is now South
Suburban Tennis and Pickleball
Academy and we have a new
logo for our shirts—a tennis ball
shaking hands with a pickleball. •
