What’s a Forehand Chip Return?
Some people think a chip is different than a volley,
but a chip is just a volley that bounces, so you don’t
have to change anything.
Abbreviated
back swing,
weight on back
foot, ready to
shift forward.
What’s the Basic Idea?
A chip is used to keep the ball low and get you
moving forward to the net. Sometimes when you hit
flat or topspin, you stop to hit the ball and then move
toward the net; there’s no momentum pulling you
forward. With a chip—they serve it, you’re ready, and
momentum pulls you forward to the net.
