PUBLISHER’S PLAYBOOK T his is an exciting time! There’s so much happening in every aspect of pickleball. Not only are courts being constructed all over the country, major alliances are forming, new manufacturers are popping up and major sporting goods companies are getting involved. The USAPA is expanding—the 2018 National Championships will take place at Indian Wells—and that’s impressive! But, it’s no surprise. With all of the personal benefits associated with this sport, it makes perfect sense. In this issue we’re happy to bring you information on steps you can take to bring this fun sport to your town. If your town’s governing body is asking, “What’s pickleball?”—give them a copy of the July/August issue of Pickleball MAGAZINE . A how-to-play piece is included for those just getting started—something you can simply tear out and post onto a bulletin board. There’s a wealth of information and many willing volunteers available to advise anyone who wants to bring the sport of pickleball to their local area. There are USAPA ambassadors all around the U.S. who are passionate about helping others learn the ropes—all you have to do is reach out. In my hometown of Pittsburgh, new courts and leagues are sprouting up. Just a few weeks ago, Pittsburgh hosted The Gamma Classic, which was held indoors in our city’s impressive downtown convention center. More than 600 people played. Not only was it fun and full of great competition, the tournament raised $33,000 for the Parkinson’s Foundation. Pickleball, again, proves to be a great fundraising activity and a terrific way to bring together the most welcoming, diverse population I’ve encountered. I wish you all a happy summer. Please keep in touch—we love hearing from you! The stories we receive through your emails, calls and photos are inspirational and we want to share them with everyone!
