The audience enjoyed hearing from each of the presenters and inductees as they shared their accounts of how the game was invented and how each of them has contributed to the sport. Representative Joel Pritchard was the first honoree. He was the founder of pickleball but passed away in 1997. Pritchard’s son Frank accepted the induction. Barney McCallum, the second of the three founders (along with Pritchard and Bill Bell), was also inducted. His son David was on hand to accept the nomination. McCallum was instrumental in early paddle development and growing the game. Mark Friedenberg and Sid Williams were inducted for their work developing the game and the USAPA. Arlen Paranto was inducted as the originator of the composite paddle. His paddle design is still the prototype used by the majority of paddle manufacturers today. Finally, Billy Jacobsen was inducted for his athletic prowess on the court. Jacobsen dominated play on the courts for over a decade and was well-known for his outstanding sportsmanship. The Pickleball Hall of Fame relies on player contributions as well as contributions from companies involved in the sport. It is documenting history while honoring those who excel on the court and provide outstanding leadership and contributions.
