FROM THE USAPA SCW Pickleball Club Grand Opening of RH Johnson New Pickleball Courts 2017 S un City West Pickleball Club and the Recreation Centers of Sun City West were proud to hold the grand opening of eight new pickleball courts at the flagship RH Johnson Recreation Center on Friday, April 7. Club President Donna Maloney, Club Sponsorship Chairman Ken Holtz, and the Governing Board of the SCW Rec Centers were on hand to dedicate and cut the ribbon to officially open the new courts. The almost $400,000 project is being paid for entirely by the SCW Pickleball Club, with an interest-free loan by the Rec Centers. This will add further value to the $150 million of amenities available in Sun City West, along with the new $4 million RH Johnson pool facility to be completed this fall. Sun City West now has 26 state-of-the-art pickleball courts, 23 of which will be managed by the club. Three of the new courts will be available for SCW residents who are not club members. The club currently has 1,200 members, including 300 new ones. Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country, according to CBS news and other reports.
