Oct.'s Pop-up theater (Oct. 27th)

Philo is so excited to announce that we will be working with Pearl Street Brewery once again to bring you a night of cinema, social education, and beer. This Oct, in honor of Halloween our theme is: NOTHING IS MORE TERRIFYING THAN DISRESPECTFUL CULTURAL APPROPRIATION. A lengthy title for a complicated topic! But, as the costumes are dusted off this season we hope to inspire some changes and motivate trick o treaters to do Halloween right this year and represent cultures authentically. We aim to accomplish this by once again electing a movie that exemplifies our topic of conversation , in this case an old western that, like most western films, does a horrible job of portraying Native Americans. The movie is "CAPTAIN APPACHE" A movie about Native American born US Army officer, Captain Apache, investigating a murder, only to eventually uncover a presidential assassination plot. We are inviting experts from the community to come talk about the movie, cultural appropriation, and Native American culture. Like before, profits from shirt sales and popcorn will be donated the partnered non-proft (TBD). So, if you are looking to be a responsible citizen this Halloween come learn how Oct. 27th at the PSB (starts 6:30pm)

#PhiloMerch

Like all other Philo projects there is always the underlying theme of raising social awareness by using collective social energy and innovative ideas. Our merchandise is no different. With our shirts we have designed a system that allows for the proceeds to be split 50/50 between socially motivated artists and graduating entrepreneurs. We have selected these groups to be on the receiving end of this process because they produce works and infrastructures that raise awareness and allow for collective involvement. For this reason we honor them by sponsoring them. You can support Philo sponsored artists and approved entrepreneurs by rocking your own #PhiloMerch and learning more about how it all works here.
