Pepe reacts to comparison to Empoy
Pepe Herrera is better known as a comedian but would you believe that he actually started as an opera singer ? Born April 21 , 1987 , his full name is Jose Emmanuel Herrera and he ’ s a voice major at the UST Conservatory of Music , graduating in 2011 .
“ Baritone ang voice ko and I did operas before crossing over to local musical theaters for PETA Then nakuha ako sa TV , first in ‘ Forevermore ’, tapos sa ‘ FPJ ’ s Ang Probinsyano ’ as Benny , sidekick in Coco Martin as Cardo . Doon ako nakilala ng tao but I had to resign after a year kasi I got sick with asthmatic lungs . Nahihirapan akong huminga at mabilis akong hingalin . I quit smoking and it helped .”
Now , he gets to play his first lead role in a mainstream film , “ The Hopeful Romantic ,” which opens in theaters on September 12 .
“ I play Jess , a valet parking attendant sa Manila Hotel . Nakatira ako sa lolo ’ t lola ko , sina Bodgie Pascua and Beverly Salviejo , and we ’ re very conservative . At my age , virgin pa ako kasi I believe I should give myself dun lang sa true love na pakakasalan ko . I meet Ritz Azul , na sobrang sexy and one leads thing to another . I lose my virginity to her and I ’ m afraid to lose her kaya nagpanggap akong mayaman para mahulog ang loob niya sa ’ kin . Pero siempre , the truth will come out at doon ang malaking conflict ng movie .”
Does he feel pressured some folks are comparing him to comedian Empoy Marquez ?
“ Ayokong i-compare or i- pressure ang sarili ko tungkol diyan . Hindi ako competitive at kaibigan ko si Empoy . Basta nagpo-focus lang ako na happy akong nakapagtrabaho ko sa Regal at nakapareha ko si Ritz .” ●
Kit Thompson is back at acting
Kit Thompson was only 15 years old when he joined showbiz , but people thought he ’ s older because of his towering 6 ’ 2 ” height . He joined the fourth season of “ Pinoy Big Brother : Teen ” and appeared in several TV shows . He got good reviews for his performance in the indie film “# Y ”. He had a brush with the law in 2014 for marijuana use then he decided to go the US to cool things off .
“ I studied acting in New York and later in L . A ., where I appeared in some short films and also worked as a model from print ads ,” he says at the press con of “ The Hows of Us ,” his comeback vehicle . “ But I really miss the Philippines so here I am back now .”
Now 21 years old , he admits he has learned his lesson and that what happened is just part of growing up . “ We learn from our mistakes . I felt so free then , more aggresive . Now , I feel more responsible for what happens in my life .”
He ’ s grateful that right after he returned home , good offers came his way . He plays a friend of Daniel Padilla in “ The Hows of Us ” and he ’ s also in the cast of a digital series on ABS-CBN . “ I feel lucky that my comeback is in a movie starring the very popular love team of KathNiel , so this is a good exposure to make people aware that I am back .”
By September , he will start shooting his first lead role in the Cinemalaya 2019 entry , “ Belle Douloeur ,” a French title which means “ Beautiful Pain ”.
“ It ’ s a May-December romance with me playing the lover of Mylene Dizon ,” he adds . “ It ’ s produced by Quantum Films and to be directed by Atty . Joji Alonso . He is aware that Mylene
Glaiza to pursue music production
The hit afternoon show of Glaiza de Castro , “ Contessa ,” is ending soon and she has made up her mind to rest from work for a while and go back to school to take up music production .
As we all know , Glaiza is a recording artist whose previous album is a big hit so it ’ s not surprising she wants to learn more about music production .
Their show started airing in March . “ So half a year rin kaming magkakasama ng co-stars ko . Kahit paghihiganti ang tema ng show namin , masaya kami lagi lahat sa set . It ’ s been a good run .”
Glaiza assures their viewers of a satisfying finale . “ Siempre , inaabangan ng lahat kung kailan matatapos ang kasamaan ng Pamilya Imperial . Basta huwag kayong mainip dahil tiyak na hindi magtatagumpay ang kanilang maiitim na balak at masisiyahan kayo sa ending namin .”
Why is she deadset on going back to school ?
“ Noon ko pa talaga balak gawin ‘ yan . Kaya lang , laging hindi natutuloy dahil may magandang project na dumarating . It ’ s part of my personal goals . Nag-entrance exam na ako noon sa La Salle at pumasa naman , but I have to prioritize my career . But this time , I really want to give it a go kasi , let ’ s face it , I ’ m not getting any younger . Isa pa , music is a big part of my life kaya gusto ko talaga kumuha ng special course music production in London .
is an award-winning actress so he ’ s really preparing well for their scenes together . They will even have a nude bed scene . “ It ’ s just fine with me kasi kailangan talaga sa script and I ’ m confident it will be well handled .” ●

Anne to finish work before vacation
Anne Curtis will make sure to complete all her commitments before she and husband Erwan Heusaff , leave for South Africa for their honeymoon in November
As is common knowledge , their heavy work schedule prevented them from leaving for their honeymoon after their wedding in New Zealand . She is just so glad , my Erwan understood .
“’ Di ko kasi akalain na madedelay ang shooting ko for ‘ Buy Bust ’ na kinailangang ipalabas din kaagad ,” Anne disclosed further . “ Kaya I had to help promote the movie . Thank God , kumita naman ng malaki sa takilya .”
“ Buy Bust ” is now being shown abroad .
Anne ’ s concert - her last , she promised - at the Araneta Coliseum was also very successful . She received several good reviews for her performance , too .
Two months before their South Africa trip , Anne is wrapping up work for “ Aurora ,” a horrorthriller by Yam Laranas intended for the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival . She also appears daily in “ It ’ s Showtime ” on ABS-CBN . ●
