Helping Others !!

Dedication and service to others is at the heart of the Filipino community . I have respected this over the years and it again was evident this last Saturday at Holy Cross Sports Field . The ANCOP Relay was attended by hundreds of individuals of all ages from around the Lower Mainland . They were joined by Tom Avendano , Rey Fortaleza and Cholo Insua .
The purpose of this event was to “ answer the cry of the poor ” by raising funds to build houses for those in need in the Philippines . To date ANCOP has built over 2,000
homes which have helped families lift themselves out of poverty .
It was also evident that the faith of the participants plays a very large role in the relay and in their daily lives . Their call is “ that it is better to give to others ” rather than to focused on oneself . This is a principle that I live by in my own life .
Here in Surrey , and indeed in British Columbia , we are blessed with a diversity of cultures and in my previous roles in government I see how this has helped us be a shining example to the rest of the world .
