Makati Congressman Monsour Del Rosario received the 2017 “ Award for a Proud Taekwondo ” given by Kukkiwon , the sport ’ s governing body .
The award is the highest accolade bestowed by Kukkiwon to individuals who have contributed to the development and spread of Taekwondo domestically and internationally . The 2017 award was presented in an elaborate ceremony at the World Taekwondo Headquarters .
Del Rosario has earned the unprecedented distinction of becoming the first and only non-Korean to earn this citation . Historically , since the award ’ s creation in 2005 , it has been dominated by Koreans , an unsurprising tradition as Taekwondo is Korea ’ s national sport .
This year , there were 11 awardees who were chosen through a highly rigid selection process conducted by a committee of Taekwondo grandmasters from around the world . Hundreds of nominees from 209 participating countries were vetted and thoroughly scrutinized in order to
About two months after TV5 officially launched ESPN5 , its long-term collaboration with the US-based sports channel dubbed as “ The Worldwide Leader in Sports ,” the network will debut the Philippine edition of “ SportsCenter .”
Premiered on December 17 after the PBA games and airing daily nightly after the games or prime time sports programs , the iconic sports news and highlights show will be a 30-minute daily program produced live and exclusive each day by ESPN5 from the TV5 studios in Manila .

In interviews after receiving his award , Del Rosario proudly dedicated his record feat to the Filipino nation .
