19 Philippine Showbiz Today October 22 - November 7, 2017 Bubble Gang celebrates 22 years on the air October is the anniversary month of “Bubble Gang,” the lon- gest-running gag show on Phil- ippine TV, which is marking its 22 years on the air. As expected, Bubble Gang’s think tanks and its producers are happy to reach this impressive milestone. One big reason why Bubble Gang has remained on top is due to its talented creative direc- tor who happens to be Michael V. With Bitoy on top of everything, Bubble Gang has remained a fa- vorite comedy viewing fare every Friday night. When asked to cite the suc- cess for the gag show’s longev- ity, Bitoy says Bubble Gang has evolved with the times. “We embraced change. We are always attuned with the times. Pag may uso, asahan mo na una mo yan mapapanood sa show. Kahit na kami ang longest-run- ning gag show, we didn’t become complacent. We are constantly evolving, trying to find ways and gimmicks to make the show even better. We owe it to our audience to make the show interesting ev- ery week, 22 years and counting,” said Bitoy.● All’s well that ends well between Viva and Star Cinema Is it true that Star Cinema allegedly tried to stop the run of “The Barker,” starring Empoy Marquez and Shy Carlos? The said offering from Blank Pages Productions and Viva Films was originally scheduled to open in cinemas on October 4. An insider told Roving Eye that when Star Cinema learned that Viva Films went into a co- production arrangement with Blank Pages Productions, the movie-making arm of ABS-CBN Network allegedly asked the latter to return Viva’s investment and accept a co-production deal with them instead. Star Cinema obviously in- voked their right over Empoy since they signed up the now sud- denly hot comedian in 2015, even if they failed to give him any proj- ects since then. As such, they al- legedly told Blank Pages they re- lease The Barker because Empoy did not ask Star Cinema’s permis- sion to do the film. Long story short, Blank Pag- es was told they will be able to release the movie provided they enter a Star Cinema production. “Naghahabol sila,” said our source. “Hindi pa naipalabas at kumita ang ‘Kita Kita’ ay ginaga- wa na ni Empoy ang The Barker de Rossi is no fluke. So Viva and kaya nagulat ang Blank Pages Blank Pages are praying for hit in sa paghahabol ng Star Cinema The Barker.● na gusto nila mag-produce. Pero - R. Calderon, TMT hindi na pwede kasi nag-offer na ang Viva at tinanggap ito ng Blank Pages. “Of course, hindi naman pa- payag ang Viva to be eased out of the deal with Blank Pages. But all’s well that ends well. Boss Vic del Rosario of Viva and Malou Santos of Star Cinema were able to iron things out. Kaya wala nang problema at tuloy na ang playdate ng The Barker on October 25,” our source added. “The Barker,” which is the di- rectorial debut of comedian Den- nis Padilla, hopes to prove that the success of Kita Kita, which starred Empoy and Alessandra Wansapanataym nominated in International Emmy Kids Awards “Wansapanataym,” the country’s longest-running series for children, has been nominated for the best TV movie/mini-series category in the 2017 International Emmy Kids Awards.  Nominees were announced on Monday by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.  “Wansapanataym” is the only Philippine TV show that has been nominated for this year’s Inter- national Emmy Kids Awards. It will be competing against entries from The Netherlands, United Kingdom, and Australia. Titled “Candy’s Crush,” the “Wansapanataym” episode that earned its nomination featured Loisa Andalio and Jerome Ponce. It was directed by Andoy Ranay, and aired in June 2016.  Apart from “Wansapana- taym,” ABS-CBN’s primetime newscast “TV Patrol” also bagged a nomination from the 2017 Inter- national Emmy Awards for news and current affairs in August.  Kapamilya actor Zanjoe Marudo, meanwhile, was also nominated at the 2017 Interna- tional Emmy Awards for the top male acting honor category. This, as a result of his portrayal on “Maalaala Mo Kaya” of a single fa- ther who raised his children inside a cave after a storm ravaged their home. Winners of the 2017 Interna- tional Emmy Awards will be an- nounced on November 20 in New York, while winners of the Interna- tional Emmy® Kids Awards will be announced on April 10, 2018 at Miptv in Cannes, France.●  - ABS-CBN It pays to advertise… Call 604-588-6397 or email [email protected]
