Veteran radio broadcaster Jose “ Joe ” Taruc passed away on Saturday . He was 70 .
Taruc , who spent decades on the air and was poised as a legend to journalists and broadcasters in the country , was the vice president of Manila-based radio station DZRH .
He was the father of four , w journalist Jay Taruc , the host of GMA Networks ’ documentary programs “ I-Witness ” and “ Motorcycle Diaries .”

Joe Taruc was the older brother of Winnipeg CKJS Radio ’ s News Director , Lito Taruc .
Considered a pillar of the broadcast industry for more than four decades , Taruc was among iconic journalists who were on the air from the Marcos dictatorship until his death .
Born on September 17 , 1947 , Jose Malgapo Taruc graduated from Divina Pastora Academy High School in 1964 and finished his Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree at Jose Rizal College .
He deviated from an accountancy job and instead pursued a career in journalism . He was the senior vice president of DZRH radio station , where he hosted its morning news program and the show Damdaming Bayan with Deo Macalma .
In a statement from the Presidential Communications Operations Office and the Office of the Presidential Spokesperson , they referred to “ Manong Joe ” as “ an institution in the radio broadcast industry ” and “ he will be missed .”
Senator Grace Poe called Taruc “ the voice of the truth .” Malacañang also extended its deepest condolences to the broadcaster ’ s family . ●
