The Pista Ng Bayan in Vancouver started as a community event put together by community leaders in collaboration with the Philippine Consulate Genera .

The event serves as a highlight to the annual month long activities celebrating Philippine Independence .

This whole day outdoor event brings together the Canadian Filipino community in Vancouver and nearby localities to a themed celebration paying homage to the community ’ s diversity .

It also features the traditional ways of celebrating the Philippines ’ rich traditions and heritage to include songs , dances and of course , food . This had been an event that had been known for its “ Lechon Parada ”. It has also become an avenue especially for the youth to present their talents and skills . It also has provided an avenue for local business to reach out to the growing Filipino community .

The United Filipino-Canadians in British Columbia ( UFCABC ) on its third year has humbly taken on the task of organizing this community event on the call of the consulate in an aim to really make this more community driven .

This move is also in recognition to the fact that the UFCABC as an organization is a society comprising of a great number of active Canadian societies in the province that cater to different Filipino groups .

The UFCABC recognizes that we are planting seed and taking small strides to keep the community together . By acknowledging the commonalities by which we are

able to celebrate together as one , we are taking a chip at greater collaborations in the future .
