Derrick “friend-zoned” by Bea

Gabbi’s take on rivalry with
other GMA female stars

Gabbi Garcia has reacted to
the observation that she is one
of the current favorites of GMA
Artist Center, considering how the
management strongly drumbeats
her
showbiz
commitments
compared to other talents.
“You know, as a talent arm,
it is expected that GMA supports
its artists at all times. Right now,
I have lots of activities, like photo
shoots so it’s understandable if
the management promotes them
to the hilt,” she avers.
Due to her rising popularity,
the Encantadia star is being pitted
against Barbie Forteza at this
point.
“Oh no! There is no
competition between us. For one,
I look up to Barbie because she’s
already an award-winning actress.
This season, she also snatched
acting nomination both from the
Urian and EDDYs. It’s quite a
feat.
“I believe we have different
fortes and GMA knows how to
further enhance them. All of us
in the talent pool have our own
time to shine. We are fielded in
the area where we’re strong at.
So that competition angle is out
of the frame.”
Asked how she handles
bashers, Gabbi reveals, “It’s a
process actually. It didn’t happen
overnight. Through time, I guess.
Admittedly, when I was just starting,
I also got affected and hurt. It was
not really an encouraging stage.
“I’m grateful that through
the help o f people close to me,
I felt more secure with myself as
days went by. I became confident
with what I can offer as an artist.
Fortunately, it came to a point that
I could already ignore them. But
of course, it would be a different
story if their attack is already
below-the-belt. I would definitely
answer back.”●

Derrick Monasterio just
laughs off the reaction to the news
hat Bea Binene “friend-zoned”
him considering that they’ve
been a love team for quite some
time now but romance is yet to
blossom between them.
“Ha-ha-ha! I don’t want to
comment on that friend-zone
angle. It doesn’t necessarily follow
that because you’re a screen pair,
you have to be in a relationship.
But of course, you don’t know
what the future holds, right? It’s
better to adopt the wait-and-see
attitude,” states Derrick.
Does she consider Bea a
girlfriend material?
“Yes she is! For one, she
has many endearing qualities.
Perhaps, my mind is not set on
that at this point. My priority is my
job. I’ve lots of assignments to
attend to so I want to strike while
the iron is hot.”
It can be remembered that
he was romantically linked with
his former screen partner Barbie
Forteza before. His followers want
to know if they become real-life
sweethearts during those times.
“Nope! We didn’t become an
item then but I courted her. She
just didn’t answer me. Ha-ha-ha!
We were still so young then,” says
Derrick.●
