forum on new
endo rules
Former DOLE Secretary Marianito Roque explains the new
provisions in the DOLE’s new administrative order on contracting
during PRA’s Forum on Effect and Implications of the new DOLE
D.O.174 on Contractualization in the Retail Industry on April 20 at
the Oakwood Premier, Pasig City.
The 24th National Retail
Conference and Stores Asia
Expo (NRCE) is all set to provide
retailers with tips and solutions
on how to prepare for the fast-
changing digital age with this
year’s theme “Future-Proofing
Retail.”
The annual NRCE is the Philippine Retailers
Association’s flagship project and will be
staged on August 10-11 at the SM Mall of
Asia Complex, Pasay City.
Tagged as the biggest and most important
retail even in the country, the NRCE will
feature talks and panel discussions from
industry experts and personalities led by
Leyte Representative and TV personality
Lucy Torres-Gomez, Senator Sonny Angara
and Rustan Supercenters CEO Irwin Lee
as keynote speakers for the two-day
conference.
Topics of the conference will cover new
rules in retail, redefining retail industry
experience, branding design, future of
shopping malls, evolving the physical store
through digital transformation, fashion
e-commerce, impact of music in the
marketplace, and engaging the millennial
consumers among others.

To ease worries and dismiss
confusion of retailers on DOLE’s
newly issued Department Order
(DO) 174, the Philippine Retailers
Association (PRA) has conducted
a forum to discuss various issues
surrounding the implementation
of the said order.
Former DOLE Secretary Marianito Roque
and Atty. Benedicto Ernesto Bitonio Jr.
served as speakers at the forum.
They covered legitimate job contracting in
which contractor should be able to perform
activity at his own accord, has sufficient
capital, controls the assigned activity, and is
compliant with labor standards. The rights
of employees were also discussed as well
as requirements for contractor registration.
In a separate symposium conducted by the
Employers Confederation of the Philippines,
