Ignacio was first introduced into the art scene through his Flora and Fauna series . A naturalist by heart , he invested a great deal of time portraying a wide variety of Philippine birds , showing them in their natural environments . Here is an artist who is concerned and advocates the protection of the natural world . His sensitive touch in all his paintings really capture the magic of flowers and usually with a bird perched on a stem or against the floral beauties !

among their wards . Some were so skeletal already . It was hard to tell whether they were male or female .
She also visited President Cory in the Palace and in one National Prayer Breakfast she came to pray with her . It was Cory ’ s trusted Appointments secretary , Margie Juico , who fetched Mother Teresa in Leveriza , another of her “ Homes .” Margie recalls “ I got a taste of heaven sitting beside a ‘ saint ’ when I picked up Mothere Teresa from her home in Leveriza to take her to Malacañang . I sought her advice on how best to seal what to me were ‘ undesirables ’ in the Palace . With difficulty in speaking English , she said to forgive them and pray for them ! That was a memorable time I had with her .”
After Cory stepped down , both women were Peace Awardees in Hong Kong and so they saw each other again . When Mother Teresa died in 1997 , President Ramos sent Cory with Speaker Joe de Venecia ’ s wife , to represent him in India and this made Cory very happy .
“ Tita ” Cory told us that she was able to touch
the body of Mother Teresa with the rosary given to her by Sister Lucia , one of the three children in the Fatima apparitions when Mother was lying in state . My own “ moments ” with Mother Teresa was being able to clasp her sweet smelling hands and be blessed by her on the three occasions . I remember during her visit to the Palace , members of the “ brat pack ” media gave me rosaries to be blessed by her .
After she blessed them by “ breathing ” on them , the rosaries exuded a sweet fragrance which lasted for days . On hindsight , I know now that was the scent of holiness ! Margie recalls that Cory even showed off her first grandson , Jiggy Aquino Cruz , to Mother Teresa who was very happy to see the toddler . She even pinched the cheeks of Jiggy gently .

Elsewhere , my good friend , environmentalist architect and water colorist Joven Ignacio will have a solo exhibit at the Makati Shangri- La in cooperation with Hiraya Gallery , “ Aliw-iw ,” from Sept .
