E-mail: [email protected] Reyfort Publishing & Entertainment Breaking Point The Saint Who Said “No” By Rosette Correa Mother Teresa was a diminutive young woman who came from Albania who joined the Sisters of Loreto, and went to India, not knowing what to expect. There, she saw extreme poverty, and the ills of society that brought about the disregard of the poor, the elderly, the orphaned and other people that humanity forgot. She immediately took up her cross, and began her crusade to love the unloved and the forgotten. Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, and the world will never be the same again when they see the white and bluestriped habits of the sisters of the congregation, walking through the crowds of all the cities in the world. The blessing that the Missionaries of Charity has received throughout the years is because of Mother Teresa’s steadfast faith in the Church and teachings it upholds. Despite the rapid changing times and the degradation of morality of society, she remained strong in her convictions of the teachings of the Church on marriage, artificial contraception and abortion. Together with the Catholic Church, she never turned her back on the Gospel, and how Jesus wanted things done. Mother Teresa was never fazed by what society demanded, and she said “no” to every attempt to change or to compromise how she ran things in her congregation. Mother Teresa said “no” to a society that believed that innocent children can be murdered and not given a chance to live; she said “no” to the way society declared the poor a burden and should be discarded;
