The Saint Who Said “No”
By Rosette Correa
Mother Teresa was a
diminutive young woman who
came from Albania who joined
the Sisters of Loreto, and went
to India, not knowing what
to expect. There, she saw
extreme poverty, and the ills
of society that brought about
the disregard of the poor, the
elderly, the orphaned and other
people that humanity forgot.
She immediately took up her
cross, and began her crusade
to love the unloved and the
forgotten. Mother Teresa
founded the Missionaries of
Charity, and the world will
never be the same again when
they see the white and bluestriped habits of the sisters
of the congregation, walking
through the crowds of all the
cities in the world.
The blessing that the
Missionaries of Charity has
received throughout the years
is because of Mother Teresa’s
steadfast faith in the Church
and teachings it upholds.
Despite the rapid changing
times and the degradation
of morality of society, she
remained strong in her
convictions of the teachings
of the Church on marriage,
artificial contraception and
abortion. Together with the
Catholic Church, she never
turned her back on the Gospel,
and how Jesus wanted things
done. Mother Teresa was
never fazed by what society
demanded, and she said “no”
to every attempt to change or
to compromise how she ran
things in her congregation.
Mother Teresa said
“no” to a society that believed
that innocent children can
be murdered and not given a
chance to live; she said “no”
to the way society declared
the poor a burden and should
be discarded;
