Tinig Migrante

Sol Pillas was the
Secretary-General of Migrante
International at the time of
her death on April 21, 2016,
seven months after suffering
a massive stroke. Sol was 58
years old.
Sol worked as a domestic
helper in Hong Kong for 25
years. Like many domestics,
she had her own share
of problems as a migrant
worker, but she had the good
luck to have found shelter
and support at the Bethune
House Migrant Women’s
Refuge.
Her
experience
pushed her to become a
volunteer counselor and case
officer for the Mission for
Migrant Workers (MFMW) and
the Bethune House Migrant
Women’s Refuge. She was
not only a domestic worker;
she was also a community
activist and migrant
leader.
Sol served as a long-time
officer of UNIFIL-MigranteHK, the foremost militant
alliance of overseas Filipino
workers in Hong Kong, up
until she left Hong Kong to
return home in 2014. She
