And like too many kids across Canada and around the world, he was met with hateful ho- mophobic bullying. Inspired to act, two of his peers decided to take action to support him and stand up against b u l l y - ing. They bought dozens of pink shirts and asked their class- mates to take a stand by wearing pink. The result was incredible. The next day, almost every student in school was wearing pink. Today, 12 years later, we cele- brate the courage and compassion- ate activism of these students. As a kid who grew up with long hair and a funny-sounding name, I know first-hand the terrible effects of bullying. It makes you feel like you don’t belong. It works to disconnect neigh- bourhoods and communities, not bring them together. It makes you wonder if there’s something wrong with you just for being you. Nobody should feel that way. That’s why the New Democrats stand for love and courage, and have always worked to build a Cana- da that is inclusive for all people. That’s why I’m proud to wear pink today, in solidarity with Cana- da’s youth who are bravely fighting bullying, homophobia, and trans- phobia as they work to make their schools safer for everyone. Today, we can recommit to creating a more inclusive, compas- sionate, and open society where ev- eryone can be who they are without fear.” SCHEER LOOKS FORWARD TO COURT AFTER TRUDEAU THREATENS LAWSUIT Ottawa, ON - The Honourable Andrew Scheer, the Leader of Can- ada’s Conservatives and the Leader of the Official Opposition, said he would welcome court proceedings on the SNC-Lavalin corruption scandal af- ter receiving a lawsuit threat from Justin Trudeau. Mr. Scheer re- ceived a letter from Justin Trudeau’s lawyer on March 31 threatening a lawsuit over Mr. Scheer’s criti- cisms of Trudeau’s conduct in the SNC- Lavalin corruption scandal. Mr. Scheer released that letter today and also released a letter his lawyer sent today in response, dis- missing Trudeau’s claims and urg- ing him to proceed with the lawsuit so Canadians get finally get the an- swers they deserve on the SNC-La- valin corruption scandal. “If Mr. Trudeau believes he has a case against me, I urge him to fol- low through on his threat immedi- ately. Canadians want this scandal to be investigated in a legal setting where Liberals do not control the WWW.PHILIPPINEASIANNEWSTODAY.COM proceedings,” Scheer said. “I welcome the opportunity to examine Mr. Trudeau in pre-trial dis- covery at the earliest possible date and I look forward to Mr. Trudeau presenting his evidence to Canadi- ans under oath in open court.” Scheer also called the lawsuit threat an intimidation tactic in- tended to scare Conservatives away from pressing for answers on the scandal. “This is what Justin Trudeau does when you stand up to him. He threatens you. He did it to Jody Wil- son-Raybould and now he’s doing it to us,” Scheer said. “Like her, we will not back down. We will continue to do our jobs, hold him to account, and get to the bottom of this.”
