INC Conducts Food Bank Project in Burnaby, Surrey
The Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) Church
in Vancouver conducted its INCGiving
Project last February 17 at the Iglesia
Ni Cristo Chapel on Marine Drive in
Burnaby. The project encourages
volunteers in countries around the
globe to share their faith through acts
of kindness.
Through outreach initiatives,
volunteer efforts and philanthropic
contributions, thousands of members
join hands to make a positive social
impact by offering time and resources
for the well-being of those in need.
INC members
prepared an
estimated 300 to 400 boxes which
are filled with different high-protein
healthy food items that are not easily
spoiled such as canned goods, snacks
and donate them to the Vancouver
Food Bank for distribution to the poor
people of Vancouver and Surrey.
Despite the rain, members eagerly
put the boxes together and distributed
them in food banks.
Other local churches of INC also
have the same project, like Victoria.
According to brother Romy
Maglaya, Minister of the Burnaby
Chapel, they want to inspire other
community groups to have similar
projects to help community and
poor.
Then last Saturday, Feb. 24, the
Surrey Food Bank Society picked
up 150 boxes, approximately 5,000
lbs., from the INC house of worship
in Surrey, British Columbia. Despite
the snowfall, 400 volunteers worked
together to load the donations into
the truck headed to the Surrey Food
Bank Society’s main warehouse in
Whalley.
“Coming out here to the Church
Of Christ today, it’s a really a great
feeling for us,” said Feezah Jaffer,
Executive Director of Surrey Food
Bank Society. “The clients are just
people like you and I. They’re seniors,
they’re refugees, they’re the working
poor, they’re people on assistance,
people with injury, young families,
young children. We rely on donors 100
percent, so it’s community helping
community.”
Across the country, an additional
23,000 lbs. were also donated this
weekend to another three food banks
in Ottawa and the Greater Toronto

every month.
