“ Sa pagkilala natin sa mga magagaling , binuksan natin ang pagkakataon upang sila ’ y maging inspirasyon sa lahat , at sana , maging dagdag na dahilan para lalo tayong umaksyon at magbigay suporta
The PBA Board will likely impose a three-year grace period within which a player may apply for the draft from when he becomes eligible to turn pro and if the option isn ’ t availed of , he will never be able to join the PBA unless a unanimous vote from the Governors allows an exception to the rule .
The Board hasn ’ t formally ratified the proposed rule but is leaning towards approval . It was among several topics that were discussed during the planning session at The Venetian Hotel here last weekend .
Additionally , PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said a PBA player who
Manila Southwoods , denied a seventh straight title last year in Cebu City , has assembled a youthladen squad to challenge defending champion Pradera Verde in the 13th Philippine Airlines Ladies Interclub golf team championships on Sept . 18-22 at Rancho Palos Verdes in Davao City .
The Carmona-based squad decided not to send a second team to defend its Founders crown and focus its energy toward reclaiming the overall title , according to Southwoods captain Claire Ong .
“ We really want to try and win para sa mga atleta ,” said Angara , who has been active in supporting the sports community .
Angara said he would push for the increase in the allowances of the national athletes and look for ways to improve facilities , as well as the core team of coaches , nutritionists , physical therapists and sports psychologists , among others .
“ The success of our countrymen on the world stage is always a cause for celebration . But such success should also prompt ( us ) to reflect and look at how we can do things better ,” Angara said .
At the end of the Asiad in Jakarta and Palembang , Indonesia , the Philippines ranked 19th out of the 37

participating countries after winning four gold , two silver and 15 bronze medals .
Angara also made special mention of Filipina athletes who won most of the medals , capturing 13 out of the 21 total medals .
“ All our golds came from women . What ’ s noteworthy — but hardly surprising — is that these gold medalists have broken gender stereotypes , having excelled in sports which are usually associated only with men ,” he said . “ Of course , gold is not the only thing that should cause us to glitter . We should also beam with pride for silvers and bronzes .”

PBA to impose draft limits

A case in point is Columbian ’ s Jackson Corpuz whose PBA contract is expiring and who is being offered to play in the MPBL . If Corpuz signs with the MPBL , he has only a year to return to the PBA .
The three-year grace period applies to prospective players . The PBA has an age floor of 23 for a player to be eligible for the draft . If a player earns a college degree before 23 or has served with the national team , he will be eligible as an exception . However , a local player must see action in at least seven games in the PBA D-League before he is cleared for the draft . In the case of Fil-foreigners , they are required to play at least 14 games in the PBA D-League before joining the draft . But if a Fil-foreigner is at least 28 , he will not be required to go through the PBA D-League and may apply straight for the draft .
Another case in point is Bobby Ray Parks who has opted not to join the PBA draft even if he ’ s eligible , preferring to play with San Miguel Pale Pilsen Alab Pilipinas in the ABL
