An 11-year old Ilongga recently
won a gold medal in the 2018 edition
of the Canada National Karate Open
Championships held last June 2 -
3, 2018 at the Richmond Olympic
Oval in Richmond, British Columbia.
Tiffany Jiloca struck gold in the 10
– 11 years old Girls Individual Kata
Event (Advanced/Black Category) with
superb performances of the Sepai and
Tiffany with Dad, mom and brother
Shisochin katas.
Tiffany, who moved to Canada
with her parents when she was 1 year
old, performed the Sepai kata in the
first round where the five judges scored
5-0 in her favour. In the second round,
she performed the Shisochin kata and
won the round with a score of 4-1 and
advanced to the final round. For the
final round, she again performed the
Sepai kata and won with a close 3-2
score.
It was Tiffany’s first exposure in a
national karate championship where
close to 98 karate clubs participated
and drew more than 600 athletes
within and outside of Canada.
According to Tiffany’s instructors
from the Ku Yu Kai Club, she deserved
the win after putting too much effort

in perfecting her katas inside the
dojo and at home. Additionally, she
exhibited discipline and focus during
her regular karate classes. She also
brought pride and honour to her school
at the Our Lady of Good Counsel in
Surrey, BC where the school publicly
recognized her achievement after the
flag ceremony.●
