It is also ranked #9 in the UN’s 2015 Annual Human Devel- opment Index (HDI), out of nearly 200 countries, making it an ideal country to live in. Canada offers great promise to a wide variety of Filipino jobseekers who in time eventually earn the right to live on its land as citizens. Since it is a vast coun- try, 33 times the size of the Philippines with lesser population, Canada’s need for extra manpower and immigrants is more pronounced than other countries. The Ugnayan sa Canada Youth Forum and Consultation aims to: a. Identify issues and challenges of Filipino-Canadian youth; and engage them on how to be partners of Philippine development b Strengthen relations/ partnership with the Filipino communities and support network groups (for referral to Filipino emigrants who undergo pre-departure services at CFO) c. Inform the participants of the various government programs and services for migrants - Diaspora Engagement to Development - CFO’s Filipinos (based on ethnicity) working and living in Canada. The Filipino popu- lation represents 2% of the 35,151,728 total population in Canada. In just a few decades, Filipino community has grown from less than a thousand residents to become one of the country’s largest im- migrant demographics. Filipinos rep- resent the fourth largest visible minority group in Canada at 10.6% of the minority population of 6,264,800. Statistics Can- ada place “South Asians” as the largest group at 25%, followed by “Chinese” at 21 % and “Blacks” at 15 %. In terms of concentration by cities, most Filipinos in Canada (67.1%) are found in the cities of Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Montreal, and the Ottawa-Gatineau Capital Region.
