Breaking Point

By Rosette Correa
Carl Jung once said that neurosis is always a substitute for legitimate suffering . Today ’ s society is one that does not like suffering , even though suffering is part of human life . When someone suffers , one , two or a small group of people tend to back the suffering up falsely and deceivingly as an attempt to help the person or relieve him of his oppressed state . Sometimes , it disregards the opinions and rights of others , because while a decision may be popular for some to support , it may not be for other people .
The problem with this is that we live in a society defined by relativism , the doctrine that knowledge , truth , and morality exist in relation to culture , society , or historical context , and are not absolute . When people cannot define something , such as morality or what individual rights truly means , they tend to flock to what is popular , and we end up with moral pluralism . Then , whatever is popular becomes the norm , even if it is a twisted version of the truth .
That ’ s another problem . Our society is devoid of the definition of the truth . Because we now have different people

Summertime is here and we all should be preparing for any water shortage . Manila Water ( too bad we are not in their zone ) intensifies its campaign towards proper wastewater management in Metro Manila ’ s East Zone under its Used Water
giving us varied definitions of the truth , and because people now adhere to what is popular , what is popular becomes the truth , no matter how immoral it is .
Suffering is one of those truths that people have misunderstood and misinterpreted . Jack Kevorkian , popularly known as “ Dr . Death ”, thought himself a hero , when he said that he was helping people be relieved of their suffering by euthanizing them . The result is what we now know as assisted suicide , and it has been made into a law in many countries , including Canada , with the Hemlock Society branding it as “ dignified dying ”. What people forget is that the true dignity of dying is in the braving of the suffering , not the bailing out on it . That is called cowardice . Now , because Kevorkian , the Hemlock Society and the law have said that it is okay to give up , then the whole of society says it is acceptable , making suicide dignified . Suffering has become a bad word , and people who oppose assisted suicide are called cruel and inconsiderate . Again , we have to go back to how many people actually wanted this to become a law and make it
Master Plan .
The target for the company in terms of used water services is full sewer and sanitation coverage of its entire concession area by 2037 . As of December 2016 , Manila Water has installed an aggregate of 133,327 sewer connections within the East Zone since the start of its concession period , serving a total of 182,554 households . For the whole of 2016 , 9,598 new sewer connections were installed , benefitting 10,184 households , while 246 kilometers of sewer pipes were cleaned within the same period .
The company also , we were told in our Bulong Pulungan media forum , continues to promote its desludging services to its customers , ( yes , there is such a service , even for Maynilad clients , too ) offering scheduled cleaning of septic tanks with no additional charges . From

On Suffering and Dying

legitimate versus the number of people and cultures who actually disagree to the practice . Even without the numbers , something believed and established as immoral in previous generations across cultures and civilizations , has now become a moral yardstick .
If you look at the history of most great people , they underwent much suffering before their greatness . Kahlil Gibran has said that out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls ; the most massive characters are seared with scars . Jesus Christ , Gautama Buddha , Matahma Gandhi , the Prophet Muhammad , and many others had to suffer much in order for the truth to be known and justice to prevail . Our society today has given much comfort to many , that suffering is unknown and people have become indifferent to it . While others suffer on the other side of the world , we put tons of food in the garbage , throw away slightly used items in place of new and better ones , waste precious time on electronics and technology , and we have become more and more narcissistic and isolated . Society and law has taught us to be wasteful and to take advantage of the benefits we get , not considering that others

Re-used water vital for the environment

January to December 2016 , Manila Water was able to empty 82,143 septic tanks , benefitting 364,265 households in the entire East Zone .
To complete the used water services , Manila Water currently operates and maintains 39 sewage treatment plants ( STP ) and two septage treatment plants ( SpTP ), to ensure that used water collected from its customers is treated and cleaned before being discharged back into Metro Manila ’ s waterways . Where does the discharge water go ? To treatment plants which have consistently passed the Department of Environment and Natural Resources ( DENR ) effluent quality standards , averaging 99.8 percent compliance over that past five years as against the required 95 percent compliance set by the department . More treatment plants are being constructed and more sewer
suffer much to get even a portion of what we have . Tragically , we have taught our children this as well , and now they are growing up in a world where the belief is that the suffering of others is an effect of their own making , not one that was brought on them by people like us . They are growing up leaving suffering to those who already suffer , and distancing themselves from these realities by creating their own virtual realities and utopias .
When we no longer recognize suffering , our humanity
networks are being laid to further increase sewer coverage within its concession . Manila Water recently inaugurated two STPs , the Taguig North Sewage Treatment Plant and the Marikina North Sewage Treatment Plant , while their respective complementing sewer networks are still undergoing completion . Currently being constructed is the Sewage Treatment Plant in Barangay Pinagbuhatan , Pasig City , which is the centerpiece of the North and South Pasig Sewer System Project . All three STPs have a combined capacity of treating up to 275 million liters per day ( MLD ) of used water , which is targeted to benefit a total of 1.6 million population .
With the ultimate goal of helping rehabilitate Metro Manila ’ s major three-river system ( Marikina , San Juan , and Pasig Rivers ), Manila Water acknowledges that it has a gargantuan task ahead with suffers . Holy
Week commemorates the suffering of Jesus Christ . For those who still believe that man is made up of the physical and the spiritual , this week is still relevant . For those who don ’ t , this week is another work week . Carl Jung couldn ’ t have put it better when he described neurosis as a substitute for suffering . When people no longer know how to suffer and to see the goodness of suffering , they simply die .
its Used Water Master Plan . We need the help of everyone , Jeric Sevilla , head of corporate communications stressed . To promote proper used water management . “ Toka Toka ” was launched to help revive the city ’ s waterways , thru proper solid waste management and segregation ; desludging of household septic tank every five years ; connecting to existing sewer lines ; and educating the community on proper wastewater management and the environment .
