Peso hits 5-month high
The peso ended the shortened
trading week on a high note, gaining
20.5 centavos to hit its strongest
level in almost five months.
The local currency closed at
49.43 to $1 yesterday to mark the
last trading day of the week from
Tuesday’s 49.635.
This was the strongest level for
the peso since closing at 49.35 to
$1 on Nov. 16, 2016.
Traders said investors cashed
in on their profits ahead of the Holy
Week.
The local currency opened
weaker at 49.66 to $1 and hit an
intraday low of 49.75. It hit an
intraday high of 49.4 to $1.
Volume increased to $788 million
from $577 million last Tuesday.
Traders added foreign funds
are pouring into the country’s stock
and foreign exchange markets on
renewed investors’ sentiment. (PS)
