Most animals are more

sensitive than humans to essential oils .
• Start by diluting heavily and use in moderation .
• Every animal is different , so carefully observe how each animal responds to the oils . Use common sense and good judgment as you try different methods .
• Take special care to not get essential oils in an animal ’ s eyes .
• Avoid using highphenol oils such as Oregano and Thyme with any animals , especially cats .
• Use special caution when using essential oils with cats . Cats are also generally averse to citrus essential oils .
Your animal ’ s size affects the amount of oil you should use .
• For smaller animals like cats and small dogs , use 3 – 5 drops ( diluted ). Be sure to dilute 80 – 90 percent prior to application ( for example , for every 1 drop of oil , use 4 – 5 drops of a diluting agent , such as coconut oil or olive oil .
• For larger animals , like large dogs , start with 1 – 5 drops ( diluted ).
• For very large animals , like horses and cattle , start with 10 drops . Unless otherwise indicated on the product label , dilution is unnecessary .
Apply oils to yourself or diffuse to introduce animals to essential oils and help them get comfortable .
• Wear oils around your animals , diffuse in their space , or apply to your hands and let the animal smell them .
• If your animal is jittery or resistant to essential oils , try applying an oil to yourself and staying near the animal for several minutes so it can get used to the aroma .
Once they ’ re used to essential oils , animals can respond well to topical application .
• For cats and dogs , paws are a great place to apply essential oils .
• For hoofed animals , we recommend application
on the spine or flanks .
• Try rubbing oils onto your own hands and then stroking the animal ’ s fur .
• For large or hardto-reach areas , combine essential oils with a carrier oil ( coconut oil , grapeseed oil or olive oil ) or water in a spray bottle for easier application .
* If your pet or animal has a known health issue , please consult your veterinarian before administering essential oils .

Life etc .

by Jun Cordero
A recent study says that immigrants have have a lower death rate at any given time period than nativeborn Canadians . One expert indicated surprise since they expected otherwise , as they presumed immigrants generally struggle financially and emotionally .
It even said “ immigrants have lower mortality in everywhere we look at . Even when they are in lower socioeconomic status , they are still healthier .”
But don ’ t make whoopee yet . Conversely , the study also says that on the average , immigrants die six years younger than those who have been here in the long term .
Their observation was that “ newcomers to Canada
are healthier than the
Canadian population , though over time and successive generations , their health as well as that of their children and grandchildren tends to decline .” They call this the “ healthy immigrant effect .”
What does this actually mean ? If I ’ ll make it simple , it ’ s something like this :
Canada has a very stringent immigration system that only allows the healthy ones to come . When we first land in Canada we are at our utmost health compared to most people who already have been living here .
As newcomers with no jobs yet we live an austere lifestyle - can ’ t afford too much junk food .
Once we land a job and gets acclimatized to the
culture and environment our lifestyle begins to change . We now get to enjoy the abundant life .
In time as financial resources go up , blood pressure , sugar , and acid levels go up too . A 29-inch waistline upon landing will now balloon to 33 inches or more . From 128-lb we ’ re now tipping the scale at 198 pounds .
The interesting thing is that no matter how long we ’ ve been in this land our food preference never change . We salivate just at the thought of crispy pata or kare-kare with bagoong , and the sweet life called leche-flan and halohalo . Then weekend comes and we find ourselves at our favorite authentic Filipino restaurant satisfying our

patriotic taste buds .
Native-born Canadians generally thrive on salads , which some immigrants may call rabbit food . Pinoys do eat lots of veggies - so long as they are brined in bagoong , patis and sauted pork - like in pinakbet , or if they ’ re swimming in those lardy soups like pork sinigang .
Maybe that ’ s why they say we die younger than the local folks .
So what ’ s to be learned here ? We immigrants have a good advantage when we arrive here , but we should take care of that advantage - stop pigging out , but be like rabbits .
