Christmas Around the World : In Focus Cipriano De Guzman , Jr .
Cipriano “ Zip ” De Guzman Jr ., baritone is a 1st Prize Winner of the 2016 & 2017 American Protégé International Vocal Competition held at the Carengie Hall ( Weill ) in New York City , USA . He recently finished his Master of Music in Vocal Performance with the highest Distinction at Elisabeth University of Music under Baritone Hiroharu Orikawa with full scholarship grant through the Loyola Memorial Foundation and Japan Association of Catholic Universities . He is also the first Filipino to get accepted at the prestigious Wales International Academy of Voice-University of Wales St . David Summer Program in July 2015 under the famous Welsh Tenor Dennis O`Neill , CBE , renowned Welsh Tenor Ryland Davies headed by honorary President Dame Kiri te Kanawa .
He is also a title holder of numerous international vocal competitions namely ; 2nd Prize ( Vocal Category ) at the 10t h Yokohama International Music Competition 2016 , 2nd Prize ( Vocal Category ) at The Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition in London , United Kingdom , an Espoir Prize at the 8th Tokyo International Vocal Competition 2016 and Espoir / Lierder Prize the 18th Osaka International Music Competition 2017 .
Other performances include Guest Performer at the International Charity Concert at Sanata Dharma University in Jogjakarta , Indonesia 2016 , Bass Soloist in Handel ’ s Messiah at the Elisabeth University of Music Christmas Concert 2016 and Guest Soloist at Hiroshima New Year Concert 2017 , Best Recitalist at the 2017 Masters Graduation Recital at Elisabeth University of Music , Featured Performer at Elisabeth University of Music ’ s New Face Concert 2017 . He also performed with the Hiroshima City Opera ’ s Production of La Boheme , playing the role of Schaunard in March 2017 .
He graduated with academic distinction in three Bachelor ’ s Degrees : Major in Communication Arts as an Academic Scholar from the University of the East Manila , Bachelor in Music Education Voice Emphasis minor in piano ( Cum Laude ) and Bachelor ’ s Degree in Music Major in Vocal Performance minor in Choral Conducting ( Cum Laude ) at the Pontifical
and Royal University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Maestra Irma Ponce-Enrile Potenciano / Bass Jun Francis Jaranilla and Choral Conducting under Prof . Fidel Calalang Jr . He is a recipient of the Klassikal Music Foundation Full Scholarship .
Other mentors include Korean Baritone Byeong-in Park and Swedish Bass Dag Schantz . He was selected by renowned British-Romanian Soprano Madamme Nelly Miricioiu-Kirk to attend her intensive vocal masterclass in March , 2015 at the Ayala Museum , Manila . He is a recipient of the “ Ambassadors Recognition for Excellence in Music ” awarded by His Excellency Ambassador Eduardo Malaya on October 2013 Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . Dubbed by the New Straits Times Malaysia as “ charming and debonair Escamillo who easily steals the heart of Carmen from Don Jose ”, Zip played the role Escamillo in George Bizet ’ s Opera “ Carmen ” at the Black Box MAP Publika from October 29-November 3,2013 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . He was hailed by The Philippine Star ( April 3 , 2014 ) “ the outstanding baritone Cipriano de Guzman , displayed a remarkably full , rounded , resonant voice and a strong personality . He was superb in his brief role ” after his remarkable performance as Frederic in the opera “ LAKME ” at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium of UP College of Music . He is a licensed Music Teacher by profession and an instructor at the UST Conservatory of Music Extension Program since March 2014 .
