I love following the Duterte series just how my wife loves watching a Korean drama series . It ’ s exciting to see the latest episode - particularly the Senator De Lima episode where she got unseated from her senate probe post after attacking Mr . Duterte .
So-called political analysts say that President Duterte ’ s hardline approach of ostracizing his critics and opponents threatens the country ’ s system of checks and balances . I won ’ t forget how my dad often says that in almost everything there always has to be check and balance . How true , but the Philippines is way past that - the balance already has tilted down to evil and corruption and no amount of check can right it .
But maybe there is still hope for the country . In the biblical Old Testament stories of the Israelites , God had always protected them from their enemies . But when the people became so evil and corrupt , God eventually used
Israel ’ s worst nemesis , Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar , to attack and utterly destroy them . It was only after so many generations that the scattered remnants of Jews came to realize the evil of their past and understood why God had to do it .
So what has this got to do with the Philippines ? Well , consider Mr . Duterte as a Nebuchadnezzar being used by God to destroy evil in the country . His ways and methods may be barbaric , but that ’ s what the country needs now . Enough of the politics .
But then , hopefully everything would end well like a fairy tale story . Like the Dr . Seuss story of The King , The Mice and The Cheese . In short it goes like this :
Once upon a time there was a King who loved his cheese but it attracted all the mice , and eventually the entire kingdom was pestered with mice - eating the royal cheese . Wise men were brought in who suggested a solution - to bring in the cats . So cats of all sizes and color
The king , the mice and the cheese
chased the mice away .
But then the cats were all over the palace and the king started to hate them . Again the wise men were called and they brought in dogs of all sizes and color . Soon the dogs chased the cats away but the same thing happened , the dogs became a nuisance so the king again had the wise men find a solution .
No problem , they said , we ’ ll get rid of the dogs . So they brought in lions of all sizes and color . Of course the dogs were terrified of the lions and they all disappeared . But the whole kingdom was terrified of lions as well so it was a problem all over again for the king . To get rid of the lions the wise men now brought in - guess what - elephants ! Of course lions are so terrified
of elephants that very soon they were all gone .
Now elephants are no small thing so everything they bumped into came tumbling down . Besides who can live with huge mammoths on the street ? So once again the king had a big problem . So what did the wise men do ? Of course , bring in the mice again ( did you ever know a big elephant could be so terrified of a tiny mouse ?)
Well , in the end , the king didn ’ t want to go over the entire cycle again so king and mice made a deal . The king agreed to share his cheese with the mice . In return the mice learned how to eat with very nice manners .
So hopefully after all of these , the kingdom of the Philippines , despite the cats and dogs , lions and elephants , will not eventually go back and make a deal with the mice after all .
