Magicakal Mishaps:

Tarot Deck Nightmares

When I was nineteen years old, I bought the Gilded Tarot Deck. The deck came with a book that explained all meanings of each card, spreads, and advice on using the deck. One piece of advice that the book gave was for me to sleep with the deck under my pillow. At this point in my life I was still very new to metaphysics and divination as a whole. As a result I really didn’t expect anything to really happen. I have found that some of the most beautiful experiences happen when one least expect it.

The first night I slept with the tarot deck under my pillow nothing happened as I expected. The second night however, is when my nights became very strange. In my dreams the cards all came to light. The Devil, the Queen of Pentacles, The Fool, all of them moved and talked in their scenes. The Magician spun his elements in misty green smoke at his will. The Devil peered right at me through his fiery pentacle. The Lovers embraced each other sensually. When I woke up out of all these bizarre dreams I was dripping in sweat and felt like I didn’t sleep at tall. I chalked it up to my wild imagination and didn’t think about it the rest of the day.

The next night my dreams intensified. The people, the animals, the scenes were more alive than ever. The ocean waters rocked the ships back and forth. The little mice played in the green meadows and the wind blow through the trees. The feelings that I got from this experience was that of unease and uncertainty. There was nothing in my book about the nature of the dreams I was having. I tried going online as well and still I did not find any information regarding the nature of my dreams. I just decided to try and convince myself that the dreams were just my imagination going crazy in my sleep.

I decided to continue on sleeping with my cards one last time. In my dreams that night the characters came out of their cards and looked like all real people, animals, and objects. The pentacles, swords, cups, and wands were real. The fur on a little mouse, a doe, and a weasel was as natural, soft, and shiny; full of life. The gown of the Queen of Wands was bright, brilliant shade of red on rich velvet material. As I watched, in my mind's eyes, my cards become real people and creatures I had a real sense of fear. What was going on? Are my cards going to take control of me? Are my cards evil? Are the cards really alive? I was young and inexperienced so my brain was really coming up with some pretty fantastic ideas and concerns.

The next morning when I woke up I decided that I was done with the tarot deck. I wasn’t sure what was going on and I was not interested in finding out. I got rid of the book and the deck that day. After that, I never touched a deck of tarot cards again. Many years later my friend picked out a deck of cards for herself in a book store. She handed me the box with a deck of cards and a book. I looked at the box wide eyed and tense. The energy from the box in my hand made my whole hand and arm vibrate. It was the Gilded Tarot Deck. She purchased the deck and used it for a few months for her personal use. Months later out of the blue she decided to give me her Gilded Tarot deck. For the first time in years I have given several card readings that have given very accurate predictions. The Universe has a fascinating way of showing what we need in our lives; what is meant for our spiritual path. I did find out later from an experienced tarot reader is that the nightmares I had while sleeping with the deck. I was developing a connection with the tarot cards and them coming to life to let me know that they are willing to bond with me.
