BLISTER PACK AWARDED FOR INNOVATION

THE EUROPEAN ALUMINIUM Foil Association ( EAFA ) has awarded Amcor Flexibles and Rohrer ’ s Frangible Formpack Blister packaging an Alufoil Trophy for technical innovation . The Frangible Formpack is a multi-chamber pharmaceutical blister that enables moisture-sensitive active ingredients such as drugs , vaccines or diagnostic reactants to be contained safely in one

One of the pack ’ s chambers can be fi lled with dry powder that incorporates an active ingredient . The other is then fi lled with liquid . The peelable frangible seal allows both components to be mixed by pushing on cavity of the pack .

German company expands with SA agency

ROTOCON HAS BEEN appointed the agent for Erhardt + Leimer ( E + L ). The partnership with the German-based inspection technology specialist began with two E + L Smartscan systems recently installed at Spec Systems . The systems were installed on the company ’ s new RCSI 330 Rotocon slitter rewinder machines .
‘ It is so simple to operate . The machine was installed on a Wednesday and fully operational by Thursday , running at a speed of about 200m a minute . In addition , the E + L Smartscan inspection feature requires minimal machine operator training because of its ease of use and one-touch set-up compared to around fi ve steps for competitive machines ,’ says Jacques van competition , praised the innovative solution .
‘ Sensitive dry medicines can be damaged by exposure to light , heat and , especially moisture . This pack goes a long way to solving all these issues , while offering a secure means of delivery in a liquid solution with sterile water , in almost any environment ,’ he says .
The multi-chamber blister also simplifi es the supply chain by eliminating the need for cool storage and glass containers . It can also be used for point-of-care diagnostic testing in situations where a complex laboratory environment cannot be set up .
Jaarsveld , Spec Systems ’ Johannesburg operations manager . According to Rotocon , there are four more orders scheduled for delivery . ‘ The agreement with E + L refl ects our commitment to expand services to customers in South Africa by adding new technology that meets real needs in our extensive portfolio ,’ says Michael Aengenvoort , owner of Rotocon .
He says Smartscan systems complement the company ’ s new RSCI brand of slitter rewinders . ‘ Together , they satisfy the ever-greater demand for cost-effective effi ciency , accuracy and quality .’ The cooperation between both companies makes it possible to offer more solutions for the label industry .

GO WITH

COLOUR

TO REDUCE LOSS

SOUTH AFRICA-BASED self-lubricated polymer bearings and bushings manufacturer , Vesconite Bearings , says lost parcels are becoming a thing of the past . This is thanks to its shocking pink packaging colour launched specifi cally for outbound shipments of various fi nished goods .
The company ’ s chairperson , Dr Jean-Patrick Leger found that parcels in nondescript brown packaging were frequently going missing after hand-over from the courier company to the airlines .
‘ It was unbelievable . Sometimes shipments weighing tons would just disappear , only to be found months later in an airport warehouse hundreds of thousands of miles away from the original routing ,’ he says .
Since Vesconite Bearings introduced the bright pink packaging with diagonal wording , lost packaging of fi nished goods has become a rare occurrence . Leger says he was advised to choose packaging that stood out so he considered his late mother ’ s favourite colour – pink .
The deep pink hues resonate with clientele and other brands have followed suit in the selection of pink hues for their packaging .
