Celebrating local successes
Beauty is big business . This was confi rmed yet again at in-cosmetics Global , which organisers are calling a ‘ resounding success ’. It was another very busy show , with a strong focus on the European , American , Middle Eastern and Asian personal care markets . While it ’ s interesting and inspiring to learn about these global developments , more Africanfocused content is key to grow the African personal care industries . Despite this , the South African cosmetics industry is booming and local suppliers are being recognised by their international counterparts for their excellent sales performance . At incosmetics , Greentech awarded Natchem for being the top performing distributor among all its distributors worldwide , and Merck South Africa ’ s performance materials division has won the company ’ s sales award for the EMEA region for two consecutive years .
These local successes form the basis of the May edition of Pharmaceutical
Cosmetic Review , as we celebrate growth and development . One example is Cirebelle , which continues to develop its local market offering and is now home to a fully functional , world-class laboratory . Turn to page 14 now to fi nd out more about this and its analytical services for niche markets . Another example , featured on page 26 , is the launch of an Ethnic hair care manufacturing facility in Durban where J Strickland products are being produced under license .
This edition also features the latest developments in the anti-ageing category ( page 16 ), from actives based on epigenetics and the concept of ageing well to those developed using trending ingredients such as turmeric .
In our bumper Ethnic Care feature on page 24 , you can read about several ingredients for multicultural formulations and how one supplier has taken the necessary steps to ask African consumers what they want from their hair and skin care products .
Technology comes under the spotlight in the Pharmaceutical Focus on page 40 . Interesting reads include a new lab-scale solution to accelerate the development of medicines , and ways in which mid-market pharma companies can utilise cloud services to benefi t their businesses .
Aarifah Nosa rka rounds up some interesting content in our regular PACKAGING REVIEW section . On page 47 , she shares expert advice on how to select the right dispenser for your cosmetics product , while new solutions for carton and board packaging are discussed on page 48 .
