We wish to share this new meeting concept with all, to both help our regional directors and involve our entire member- ship in making IPA a stronger organization that is better able to serve all. In the past, we aimed for two meetings per year, one in the spring and the second in the fall. One location was based in the New England area; the other was more conve- niently located for the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylva- nia growers. This gave our membership an opportunity to at- tend two meetings, often with different sets of speakers. New venues were needed to accommodate these meetings due to changes in the business status of the orchid nurseries where our events traditionally were held. Thanks go to Carri Raven- Riemann for creating her “back-to-back” meeting concept of having two meetings, one on Saturday and the second on Sun- day of the same weekend, with similar programs - both within a 2-3 hour driving distance. Speakers will do a feature presen- tation and bring sales plants for both events, saving the Re- gion on duplicating travel expenses. And the local co-hosting societies get a chance to listen to speakers whom they might not otherwise have an opportunity to hear. By thinking out of the box, by having our events co-hosted by local societies, we are bringing the speakers and vendors to the societies rather than bringing the society members to a greenhouse venue. We hope that this new approach will encourage our fellow re- gional directors, working in tandem with other regional direc- tors, to coordinate with their local societies, or with individual members of local societies, to offer the venue and support that would benefit the regional directors as well as all those who love or are interested in Phalaenopsis.
