Our organization is divided into regions with a director rep- resenting each region. Directors are charged with the duty of being the lifeline from our members to the leadership of the IPA. After twenty years, we are currently subdividing some of our regions to better serve IPA membership and to increase awareness of Phalaenopsis everywhere. IPA leadership will support you in the planning of regional meetings by assisting you - when possible - in securing speak- ers/or programs to present at these events. We will also put you in touch with others in your area who might help you plan and conduct meetings. Please let us hear from you if you have any questions or interest in being one of our regional direc- tors. Thank you for stepping up to promote Phalaenopsis and to help make a better IPA. Our current bylaws list the duties as follows but to be perfect- ly honest in the near future we expect our revised bylaws to be much more workable for most individuals; so please consider the following as a basic guide … not written in stone: ARTICLE IV REGIONAL DIRECTORS 1. Regional Directors. There shall be at least twelve (12) Re- gional Directors, the number to change as new regions are formed by the Board. The Second Vice President shall appoint Phalaenopsis - Vol. 21(1), Third Quarter 2011 a Regional Director from each region who shall be a member in good standing of the Alliance and who will represent that Region on the Board of Directors. Such appointments shall be subject to approval by the Executive Committee. The Regional Directors shall function as the liaison between local members, other associations and the Alliance, conveying information in both directions and shall forward an annual report to the Ex- ecutive Committee on activities in their respective Regions, the report due by the Fall Semi-Annual Meeting. 2. Regional Director Term of Office. The Regional Director’s term of office shall be two (2) years, commencing from the time of approval by the Executive Committee. Exceptions to the term limit may be made at the discretion of the Executive Committee. 3. Removal and Replacement. Any Regional Director, upon thirty (30) days written notice sent by mail to such Direc- tor and to the Executive Committee, who by reason of ill- ness, neglect, lack of interest, or other cause shall not have adequately attended to his/her duties may be replaced by a vote of the Executive Committee. Any Regional Director who has not attended in person or returned a proxy for two (2) or more consecutive meetings of the Board of Directors (An- nual, Semi-Annual or Special) shall be considered to have re- signed. In such case the Second Vice President shall select a new Regional Director subject to approval of the Executive Committee. 4. Regional Meetings. Regional Meetings of the Alliance are expected to be held at least once each year and may be held more frequently if possible and desired in the Region usually, but not necessarily at an Orchid Show or other event, and at the discretion of the Regional Director. Such meeting shall be publicized at least thirty (30) days in advance via any of the following: Society Newsletters, the Alliance Newsletter or direct mail. A quorum shall be one third of the Alliance members in the region and a summary of the meeting and activities shall be forwarded to the Second Vice President and 7
