IPA Regional Reports Barbara Noe
Region 2 : Central Pacific - Vivian Sellers . Vivian traveled to Cape Town , South Africa in September . While there , she attended the Cape Town Orchid Society meeting and presented them with back issues of Phalaenopsis and membership applications . They voted to place the magazines in their library ; perhaps someone from their society will join IPA . This is significant outreach considering that the 21st World Orchid Conference is in Johannesburg , South Africa in 2014 .
Region 3 : Northwest - Joan Bateman . We had a great time at our 2nd IPA regional meeting . There were 18 attendees from Seattle , Boise , Spokane and Tri-Cities . Peter Lin provided a terrific presentation including bunches of information about novelty and species Phals . Our auction raised enough money to cover our speaker ’ s flight , food , equipment and A / V needs . Given our modest attendance , this should give other regions more incentive to plan regional meetings .
Region 4 : Mountain West - Wes Addison . Wes had no activities to report this quarter however he is busy planning for the Phoenix show in April with the IPA regional meeting scheduled in conjunction with this event . Watch our website for more information .
Region 6 , 7 and 8 : North TX , OK , South TX , LA , AR – Ollie Garrison . The Shreveport Orchid Society and these IPA regions announce the Third Annual Regional Symposium and Tabletop Show on February 23 , 2013 at Riverview Hall , 600 Clyde Fant Parkway , Shreveport , LA , across from the Barnwell Center . The format will be the same as previous years with tabletop ribbon judging followed by AOS judging . Our speakers are Meir Moses of the OrchidKonnection and Dr . Tin-Wein Yu of Louisiana Orchid Connection . Registration is $ 25 and includes a catered lunch . Both Meir and Tin will have plants for sale and we will have our annual auction during lunch . Region 11 : Eastern Great Lakes - Dick Wells . Hilltop had a wonderful open house on September 22 . We had approximately 50 people and a wonderful guest speaker Mike Morris . We will have our Annual Wine , Cheese and Orchids Open House the second weekend in December . The IPA is showcased at all Hilltop events .
Region 12 : Southeast - Tom Harper . Plans for the Winter Meeting : I am currently in the process of planning our winter meeting at Peach State Orchids in Woodstock , Georgia . The meeting date will likely be in mid to late February 2013 . Speakers for our program are being reviewed . Look for specific information up coming soon on the IPA website .
Region 13 : Piedmont - Linda Thorne . Another great Phal . day in Hickory , NC on November 3 , 2012 with the Catawba Valley Orchid Society , the Hickory Furniture Mart , the Carolinas Judging Center Judges and our Region 13 Phallie maniacs who all contributed to the success of the meeting . A greeting and welcome by the mayor of Hickory NC , Rudy Wright , started our day off with a bang !
