We have phenomenal students producing innovative , challenging and revolutionary work every day . Putting the leading-edge technology in our Merchiston campus to good use , our students have done everything from turning a dilapidated Soviet-era building into an immersive virtual reality experience ( and ended up being interviewed for Bulgarian TV about the project ) to translating the Edinburgh-based sculpture garden Jupiter Artland to the Minecraft landscape .
Our specialist labs include Cisco networking , general networking , & embedded systems for Linux ; security and forensics and embedded systems ; games development lab with high-spec PCs ; PS3 development kits and NVIDIA enhanced machines ; specialist digital media labs ; and visual effects lab . You can also access a large range of free software including the Microsoft Academic Alliance ( MSAA ), the VMWare Academic Program ( VMAP ) and the iPhone Developer University Program .
“ Creating Jupiter Artland in Minecraft was my internship . We tried to recreate this beautiful place in Minecraft to make it more interactive , to make it something that children will be able to use later on . Because I ’ m studying Interactive Media Design I ’ m interested in mixed-media storytelling , so we used Minecraft and mobile applications and in the future we ’ re going to connect that to beacons .”
