The sunlight filtered through the trees as she ran.

A ruby cape billowing behind her as her solid feet met uncertain dirt.

The path twisted and wound among tall pines that seemed to go on forever.

A woven basket swung at her side.

Filled with goods and sweets.

Back. Forth. Back. Forth.

Like the pendulum of a grandfather clock, her basket swung.

Brown curls bounced with the rhythm.

And her heart beat to it as well,

Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom.

Curious dark eyes swallowed up the greens and browns of the woods.

Feet. Dirt. Feet. Dirt.

Back. Forth. Back. Forth.

Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom.

Her endless song echoed through the timber….

Suddenly, the air stiffened and the uncertain ground beneath her feet grew cold.

Twigs snapped and bushes rustled

Shadows in the corners of her eyes stirred with an unseen evil hidden to the eye.

Grey fur prowled among the undergrowth

A vicious tail slashed through the leaves and grass
