Thunder soon sounded overhead.

“Has it worked?” asked Karma.

“It is in our best interest to assume that it has,” replied June, “we should get going.”

June handed the necklace back to me. “It is now your duty to pass this down to your descendants, Willow. Can you do it?”

I looked into her hard, determined eyes and nodded my head firmly. “Of course. Anything to save my sisters.”

We walked through the rain, black cloaked and cold. What a strange sight we were, twelve young women trudging through a rain-soaked field. I held Karma close to me to shield her from the rain as much as possible.

We were very far from Salem already, but we were still in danger. None of us knew exactly where we were going, but we did know that we had to get away.

“What exactly are these descendants of ours supposed to do?” asked Deniz.

Through the pounding rain, June’s voice could barely be heard, but she said, “They will finish what we started, bring justice to our kind…” She turned around to look at us, a wicked glint in her eye.

“They’ll end the witch hunters.”

Karma looked up at me. We all knew what June meant when she said “end” in that bitter voice. She meant destroy,

wipe out,

kill.
