the POWER of

COMPASSION

and altruism

The Dalai Lama once said that “compassion is a necessity, not a luxury”, and that “it is a question of human survival”. Compassion is a process of connecting by identifying with another person. Identifying with another person is an essential process for human beings. This identification with others through compassion can lead to increased motivation to do something in an effort to relieve the suffering of others, whether physical, social or emotional trauma. Compassion motivates people to go out of their way to help physical, spiritual, or emotional hurts or pains of another. Compassion is not limited to one part of our lives, but can permeate and resonate in all areas.

Our cover story about Lobsang, his community, his children, is a perfect example of the challenges and of what compassion truly is.

It is not always easy and effortless to be altruistic, have an open heart and be compassionate. Excuses and ignorance may be in the way. Each time I have chosen to 'break open and get outside of myself', I, in return, received so much. Full circle. Being compassionate exposes us to life and to its entire preservation which includes human, animal, environmental and marine life preservation.

The lovely breezes of Spring and Spring's unfolding of colorful blooms also brought my way wonderful new collaborations and new partnerships. Firstly, we have partnered with Carlos Santana's Milagro Foundation and Telehealth Project, and Books With No Bounds, founded by 2 teen sisters. Secondly, we are collaborating with Keith Maryanovich, Co-Founder of Altruistica.org, to present an 'Altruistic Agenda', sharing events you may want to get involved with. Thirdly, we have two new Contributors: Captain Paul Watson, Founder of Sea Shepherd, who shares his historical victory about anti-poaching, a story of resilience and determination initiated fifteen months ago. The entire criminal operation was shut down.
