A PROFOUNDLY ALTERED PLANET

The atmosphere contains high levels of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases released from fossil-fuel. The result is a warmer Earth. A warmer Earth means warmer air and oceans. A hotter world also means rising seas. Much of these gases in the air came from the United States and other industrial nations. China is now by far the top carbon dioxide polluter, followed by the United States and India. Our civilization is creating a profoundly altered planet. NASA scientists now link climate change with increase in wildfires, and scientists say climate change played a role in the Everest avalanche.

No single country causes climate change, and no one country can stop it. We are all in this together.

YOUNG WARRIORS AND EARTH GUARDIANS

In this issue, we are featuring two young brothers who are Earth Guardians. Their devotion and utter focus come from their connection to nature and their concern for what the state of our beautiful planet will be when they are older. They describe themselves as a tribe of young activists, artists and musicians from across the globe stepping up as leaders and co-creating the future they know is possible. They are a global community of young warriors and mentors who are tired of waiting for others to lead them into a sustainable future.

The Colorado teen Xiuhtezcatl Roske-Martinez is the youth director of Earth Guardians. He is only 15 years old. Xiuhtezcatland his brother Itzcuauhtli, 12 years old, are committed to changing the world.
